BWCAW Dog Team Expedition

It is a miracle to have a dogsledding paradise right here in northeastern Minnesota. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness does not allow motorized transportation so dog teams can reign supreme in the winter.John Fisher of Cook guided a team of 10 Alaskan Huskies on a five-day trip along the U.S./Canadian border. In the photo with this story, the team is on Ottertrack Lake and is approaching a steep hill at the western end of Monument Portage. The portage trail between Ottertrack Lake and Swamp Lake has three interesting monuments. They mark the Minnesota, USA and Ontario, Canada border.
