Lance Mackey nominated for ESPY award

Lance Mackey, the 2007 Iditarod and Yukon Quest Champion has been nominated for an ESPY Award, category “Best Outdoor Athlete”. Lance is the first Alaskan musher ever nominated for an ESPY award as well as the first musher in history to win the Iditarod and Yukon Quest sled dog races back to back in the same year. The ESPY Awards are the one night each year where athletes from all sports join together to celebrate the best moments of the year. The ESPY Awards take place on Wednesday, July 11th at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, CA. Lance and his wife Tonya will be present for the award ceremony. Lance will also be participating in the ESPY Celebrity Golf Classic Tuesday morning, July 10th athletes and celebrities tee off at the Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms Resort for a day of fun competition for the V Foundation for Cancer Research.All proceeds from the ESPY Awards and related events benefit the V Foundation for Cancer Research in memory of the late Jim Valvano.ESPYS votes may be cast online at http://espn.go.com/espy2007 beginning today, Monday June 25, 2007 until July 7, 2007. (you will have to scroll down the list of nominations until you find “Best Outdoor Athlete”)
