Markstay-Warren Challenge the Champ Sled Dog Race promises to be a world class event

At a recent committee meeting, the Markstay-Warren Challenge the Champ Committee announced that plans were right on track for the big inaugural event to be held on the weekend of February 24th and 25th, 2007. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the organizing committee, and the generous support of local businesses FEDNOR, Ontario Tourism and NOHFC, the town will play host to world class sled dog racers from across North America. Early registrations are showing a tremendous interest from mushers who will make their way to Northern Ontario to Challenge the Champ. The event, which is being held at the Warren arena, will bring a wide range of sprint sled dog racers to compete in different classes such as 2 dog skijoring, all the way up to the sprint 8 dog class. With a purse of $10,000, this event will have the largest purse of all other races in Northern Ontario. The Municipality of Markstay-Warren is home to World Champion Lou SerrŽ, who is anxious to race in his home town for the first time. Coupled with the annual Warren and District Lions Club Snowflake Festival, this is going to be a very fun event for the whole family. We invite all to come out to encourage Lou as well as all the other racers of Northeastern Ontario, who will test their speed, and endurance against top sprint mushers, in their quest to become the best of the class on the international point system. For more information, check out the web site, and we hope that the weather continues to cooperated, to allow us to have great winter fun. Hope to see you all there!
