Mushers attended Curtis, Michigan Midwest Sled Dog Symposium

CURTIS — The sixth annual Midwest Sled Dog Symposium was held in Curtis on Saturday, September 27th.Mushers from all over the Midwest, Alaska and Canada attend the event each year. Workshops on mushing, race strategies, dogs, gear and more are held so mushers can learn about a broad variety of topics. Over 150 mushers and fans of the sport registered for the symposium.”We want more mushers to be involved and to learn from the race as well, and to keep this sport growing; a way for mushers to network with each other,” says coordinator Tasha Stielstra. “During the sled dog season, we’re all too busy running sled dogs and at races. We’re too busy being competitors with each other, so this gives us a chance to do that.”Keynote speaker Jeff King is a four time Iditarod champion. There was also a yard sale so mushers could buy the latest gear and several vendors were set up alongside the workshops.
