Susan Butcher Day bill passes

The Alaska House passed a bill that calls for honoring Susan Butcher on the first Saturday of each March. The first Saturday of March is traditionally the start of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, a race which Susan won four times in her career as a musher.Butcher, who died last year of leukemia at the age of 51, was an inspiration to many athletes, especially women. Butcher raced equally against men in a male dominated sport, and won. She also made headlines after she helped drive a dog team to the sumit of Mount McKinley, the highest peak in North America. The bill will now go to the Senate for approval.
